Holidays
Happy Easter 2016
Today is Easter Sunday. The reason for today is the Resurrection of Jesus.
Easter is a very serious holiday, but we also have a lot of fun with it also. The Easter Bunny comes to our houses and brings us colored Easter eggs, soft toys in the form of bunnies, ducks and chickens, and every Easter basket also includes some of our favorite candy.
Often the Easter Bunny brings other favorite treats for our enjoyment. Flowers are a popular Easter gift also. We, the Colorado Traveling Ducks, wish you all a very Happy Easter.
Good Friday 2016
It is Natioinal Chocolate Covered Raisin Day–Let’s Go to a Movie
Today, March 24 is National Chocolate-Covered Raisin Day. This information comes from http://www.punchbowl.com Click on Reasons to Celebrate at the bottom of the page. Nestle Raisinets are one of the most popular candies for movie-goers. Raisins are an excellent source of fiber, potassium, iron, calcium and certain B vitamins. Add some dark chocolate into the mix and you’ll also get a healthy dose of antioxidants and important minerals. So, let’s eat some Raisinets for our health! And they taste good, too.
The photo is over. Let’s eat them!
Palm Sunday 2016
Happy Palm Sunday from the Colorado Traveling Ducks. Palm Sunday, the Sunday before Easter Sunday, commemorates the triumphal entry into Jerusalem by Jesus. Palm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week. We wish you a happy and peaceful Holy Week.
Happy St. Patrick Day 2016
It’s Gone
Today only has 23 hours. What happened? Mom says Daylight Savings Time began at 2 a.m. today, Sunday March 13. We will get that hour back November 6. Humans do strange things. It will not get light so early in the morning now. The best part though, it will not get dark so early in the evening. Maybe more cooking dinners outside and eating outside. Summer will be coming soon. Of course, there may be more winter first, but it will be light later in the evening, so everything will be good. Did you remember to change your clocks?
Happy Leap Day from the Colorado Traveling Ducks
Today is February 29, 2016. February 29??? February only has 28 days, right? Not always. Most years that can be evenly divided by 4 are Leap Years. Also presidential election years in the United States. How much time does the earth requires to orbit the sun? It is exactly 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes and 46 seconds. So, to keep the seasons and months together, an extra day is added every 4 years. Almost. On century years, the ones that end with 00, there is a leap year only if the year can be evenly divided by 400. This can get confusing. But all that means that today, February 29 is a special day. Some stores will even have special Leap Year sales. And, if you were born on February 29, you only have your real birthday once every 4 years. So, Pizza Hut says that if that is you and you can prove your birthday is February 29, you will receive a free one topping personal pan pizza today. Also, tradition says that ladies may propose marriage to a man today, on Leap Day. So, whatever you do today, make it special. This is a special day, and you will not see February 29 again for 4 more years.
President’s Day 2016
We, the Colorado Traveling Ducks, wish you all a very Happy President’s Day.
Mount Rushmore has heads of four presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.
This holiday was originally created in 1885 to recognize the birthday of President George Washington on February 22. In 1971 the holiday, under the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, was changed to the third Monday in February and now honors all presidents.
