Happy National Tapioca Pudding Day

We ducks and humans love tapioca.   But sometimes we forget to buy it at the grocery store.   But we will be enjoying some tapioca today!   Today, July 15, is National Tapioca Pudding Day.  According to http://www.NationalDayCalendar.com tapioca is a starch made from the cassava root.   Wow!   Last summer when we were in Malawi the people ate cassava almost every day.    But to make tapioca, the edible root is ground into a powder or a pearly extract.   The resulting pearls are called tapioca.

We hope you also enjoy some tapioca pudding today.

Happy Independence Day USA 2017

Today, the 4th of July, is Independence Day in the United States.   We were a British colony, but in 1776 the Declaration of Independence was ratified and the United States of America declared themselves independent.   After a war with Great Britain, and many discussions by the American leaders, our government was formed and the United States of America was an independent country.   Of course, like all countries, we had difficulties, but we Americans are forever grateful to our founding fathers, our freedom, and our way of life.   We introduce you to our newest family member, Independence Duck.

Independence Day Duck

On this day Americans, human and ducks, watch parades, attend fairs, have picnics, cook outside, visit the mountains, visit the beaches, go camping, and enjoy our families, our friends and our freedom.  And when darkness arrives, there will be many magnificent fireworks displays.

People across our country will be giving thanks for our way of life and celebrating our independence.

Happy Father’s Day 2017

Today, June 18, 2017 is Father’s Day in the United States.   On this day, the third Sunday of June, we honor our fathers, all men that are fathers and all men that help in any way with children.   Father’s Day had been celebrated for several years, but was not a National Holiday until 1972.   Many were afraid of attempts to commercialize the day.   However, in 1972 President Richard Nixon signed into law the official National Holiday of Father’s Day, to be celebrated every year on the third Sunday of June.

Happy Father’s Day

We, the Colorado Traveling Ducks, wish you all a very Happy Father’s Day.

Happy National Eat Your Vegetables Day

National Grape Popsicle Day

Summer is arriving in the northern hemisphere, bringing warm weather.   Today, May 27, is National Grape Popsicle Day.   According to http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com  this all began in San Francisco, California in 1905.   They say that 11 year old Frank Epperson was outside on his porch, mixing water with a white powdered flavoring to make soda.   Upon going inside, he left it there on the porch with the stirring stick still in it.   That night the temperature reached a record low and the following morning, Frank discovered the drink had frozen to the stick.   The Popsicle was born.   It is a warm weather favorite for all ages and comes in many flavors.   Today perhaps we will enjoy a Popsicle.
