Horses in and Around Denver

Colorado became a state in 1876.   At that time most people traveled by horse.   Today, many people in Colorado own horses.   Every January Denver hosts the National Western Stock Show.  The rodeos at the National Western are among the largest in the country.   We have horse carriages on our pedestrian mall in Denver.   But, we have many statues of horses that just don’t look like the horses I usually see.   Mom says this is artistic interpretation.   What do you think?   This horse statue is in west Arvada, near a beautiful, new housing community.

What is in its mouth?  And what is it wearing?  Horse shoes or horse boots?  In western Colorado, in the town of Rifle, this statue resembles a horse, but what is the horse standing on?

Rifle is a great western town.   I like Rifle.   West of Denver and south of Boulder, is the town of Eldorado Springs.   This horse was outside a sculpture studio.

Denver encourages public art.   This horse is on the corner with a Wal Mart.

The prancing horse, created in 2008 by Jim Dolan, is called Montana.   In downtown Denver, the main Denver Public Library is in the Denver Art Museum complex.   Here we have a small horse standing on a big chair in front of the Denver Public Library.

One of Denver’s more famous horse sculpture in at Denver International Airport.   This well known sculpture is also famous for killing its creator.

During the creation, the horse fell and did kill the artist.   The artist’s son finished the blue horse.

These red eyes on the horse really are noticeable as night approaches.   Perhaps our most famous, and most loved horse is the white bronco on the stadium where our Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos play football.

The people of Colorado do love the Denver Broncos football team, and our horse, Bucky.

Bucky was moved to his traditional place of honor when a new stadium was built over 20 years ago.   There are many statues with horses in Colorado and in fairness, we wanted to show you some of the more unusual.   But we love our state and our many horses.

Very comfortable for the Colorado Traveling Ducks and humans.  Leaving the plane, we went through customs and immigration and took a taxi to our hotel.   Humans and ducks walk around and look at this.

Zeb the Duck goes to Denver International Airport

I, Zeb the Duck, went to the airport.   My Alaska cousin, Eider Duck, flew from Fairbanks, Alaska to Denver.  Eider is going to visit me for a few days.   I can’t wait to see my cousin!

Mom and I drove to DIA (that’s Denver International Airport).  Driving on the airport property, we saw this big blue horse.

Many people all over the world have seen and remember this horse.  Eider’s flight was late, so mom and I explored a little.  We were not flying anywhere, so we could not pass through security to enter other parts of the airport.   We saw this statue in an area for arriving passengers.

Denver will have a hotel in the airport in 2015.

This will be convenient for travelers and for conventions.  I, Zeb the Duck, have stayed at the airport hotel in Miami International Airport.   I liked it and am looking forward to Denver having an airport hotel.

Denver’s airport has many stores and restaurants, as most airports do.   But this is probably only in Denver’s airport.

You may have heard many rumors and strange information about the construction of this airport, but we are ducks, and ducks don’t do drama, so we have nothing to say about that aspect.

Dinner at The Fort near Denver

Zeb the Duck here and I am very happy.  My Alaska cousin, Eider and his dad, are flying to Denver today.  Mom and I picked them up at Denver International Airport.  This is a very big airport.  Denver_International_AirportThe design is to represent the high mountain peaks of the Rocky Mountains.

The blue horse at the airport is an original and well known to travelers using Denver’s airport.

Eider and I and our humans visited The Fort restaurant in nearby Morrison, Colorado for dinner.  They specialize in Colorado beef, wild game and fish.  We started with warm bread and pumpkin nut rolls.

Let's get started!

Let’s get started!

The salads were large, fresh and crisp and very tasty.  The humans ordered a featured meal consisting of a buffalo medallion, an elk chop, and quail breast, served with Montana huckleberry sauce.

So much food

It was very tasty and we were all pleasantly full.

After dinner, we explored the restaurant.  The bartender was very friendly and invited us to pose on the bar.

Adjoining the bar was an additional lounge.  The smaller tables had colorful cloths

where humans, and ducks,  can sit, chat and enjoy a beverage and snack.   The lounge had a wooden model of Noah’s Ark.

Over the door leaving this lounge we saw this jackalope.

What's a jackalope?

They humans just laughed as we asked where jackalopes live.  Must be a human joke.   In another room we saw this buffalo mount on a wall.

Buffalo sure are big!  These are huge horns over the grill.

It was dark when we left the restaurant.  We liked this fire pit.

Contained fires are very warm and inviting.  They even had a statue of a polar bear.
