Yesterday we went to US Bank. They usually have a sign with quiz for the day. This one was new to us. What animal has three sets of eyelids? The correct answer, according to the teller, is a camel. They have 2 sets with eyelashes to help protect their eyes from sand. The third set is very thin and acts as a “windshield wiper” to clean the eyes. This thin eyelid opens and closes from side to side, not up and down. This eyelid is thin enough that the camel can somewhat see through it. During sandstorms or high winds, the camels often close this thin lid to protect the eyes, but still able to see where they are going. Wow! I am so glad we went to the bank and learned this. I never knew about three sets of eyelids.

The White Fence Farm of Colorado
You have to eat at this restaurant! I, Zeb the Duck, went to the White Fence Farm for dinner.
The food was great, but even if it wasn’t, this place has so much to see.
I went with Soapy Smith Duck, little Pumpkin Duck and our moms. The front yard of this farm style restaurant has a gazebo,
a play area, statues of many animals and
a stream and pond with ducks. There are also peacocks in an enclosed area.
We really liked this delivery truck for White Fence Farm.
This restaurant opened in 1973, as “Wilson’s Good Eating” and was an immediate success. They added a Country Cottage to give diners an opportunity to shop before and after dinner. Country Cottage is still there and so is Giggleblossom Cottage.
In 1981, Wilson’s Good Eating made an agreement with the White Fence Farm Restaurant near Joliet, Illinois. The menu was simplified, the award winning chicken recipe was served and the OK Corral was built. Denver’s White Fence Farm was created. At the OK Corral, we fed and touched the animals.
We love these animals.
After all the animal contact, the humans needed to wash their hands.
Around the farm we found a 1925 Ford Model T one ton truck.
This truck cost $1,300 when it was new. It did not have a gas gauge. A stick inserted in the gas tank showed how much fuel you had. We liked this old farm equipment. This Rest Haven was Out of Order.
Inside the farmhouse, or restaurant, we found many dining rooms. Each was friendly, cozy and very nice. While waiting to be seated, some people sat in this area.
We had the famous country fried chicken. Yum. The chicken dinner has 4 pieces, or ½ a chicken. The waitress placed a big plate with 8 pieces of fried chicken on the table. Everything was delicious.
After dinner, we visited the Americana Barn. The barn is huge and attached to the restaurant. There is an indoor play area for small children. The Carriage House has the Hen House Five entertaining.
You will love them. There is also an indoor stage, called the Front Porch Stage, featuring live entertainment.
Tables are here and you can purchase snacks and beverages while you are entertained. There is so much to see and do at The White Fence Farm that you will want to return often. And, the food is excellent. For more information visit www.whitefencefarm-co.com
The Pumpkin Patch at Rock Creek Farm
We went to the Pumpkin Patch.
We walked around the field. We picked up pumpkins and brought them home. I, Zeb the Duck, Soapy Smith Duck, Pumpkin Duck and our moms visited the pumpkin patch in Broomfield, Colorado, just a little northwest of Denver.
Rock Creek Farm has over 100 acres of pumpkins for you to choose pumpkins.
There are several different fields. Soapy’s dog, Steve, went with us.
Steve is heading for the pumpkins. Many of the pumpkins are still growing on the vine. When we came to the farm, we were given this pumpkin saw. We ducks are sitting here guarding the pumpkin saw.
After the pumpkins were picked and put in the trunk, we visited the corn maize. There are different corn maizes of different lengths. Zeb and Soapy want this longer one of 4.5 miles. Pumpkin Duck wants a shorter one, 1.7 miles.
This farm is really kid friendly. Human kids 5 years and younger can go in the maize for free. These picnic tables are near the entrance to the maize.
There are bales of hay and straw everywhere.
Next we went to the kids play area. We like this wagon with hay and pumpkins.
This tractor is also great.
Then we saw the farm animals. These pigs really liked Steve.
Cows are just so cute.
The cows like Steve also.
While we walk around, mom puts us in a small brown bag.
But, while looking at the goats, the goat wanted to eat us!
That was not so much fun for us. The moms thought it was really funny. The human kids can play here
on the slide and in the bouncy house. Before leaving, we go to the booths to pay for our pumpkins. We also bought pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting and sprinkles on top. Water was also purchased. Steve was thirsty after the pumpkin patch, so she drank most of the water we brought. Look at all the different types of gourds and stuff they grow here.
This is a great place. We hope you visit the pumpkin patch this week. There are still hundred of pumpkins, but they are going fast. Visit www.RockCreekFarm.com for more information.
Eastern Colorado Prepares for Autumn
I, Zeb the Duck, and Soapy Smith Duck, went to eastern Colorado recently. Please welcome our newest member of the Duck family.
Pumpkin Duck was recently hatched.
We love the mountains in the west, but the east has farms. We found these bales of hay near the road.
The bales are scattered in the field with wind turbines in the background. The eastern plains of Colorado are often windy, so wind turbines are a common sight.
A little further down the road we saw these machines. Mom is not sure what they are doing, but the green machine works in the field.
The green machine keeps something from the field and empties it into these trucks.
Farming requires a lot of hard work.
Here there were several men nearby getting ready to start work early one morning.
Many crops are already harvested. Now the hay is being prepared for winter. Some bales are stacked in the fields.
Some are stacked in a shelter.
Farms often have animals in addition to crops.
These cows are happily grazing.
Eastern Colorado does not usually receive enough rain, so irrigation is necessary for crops to thrive.
This farmer might be a Denver Broncos football team fan.
Love the orange and blue! Viewing acres of cared for farmland is beautiful.
But, we ducks love the cows the most.
When we see farms, we appreciate the hard work done here to bring food to all of us.
Best Chocolate in Denver–4 years straight
We love chocolate! Zeb the Duck here and I just returned from Roberta’s Chocolates.
This store has everything. You can see they have the unusual also. It is close to Halloween, so this is a warning.
We dared and we entered. Look at this candy with Halloween decorations.
Everywhere I looked I saw tempting treats. You have to see this and buy some.
You will love it. Roberta even has Bronco themed candy.
You know that the Denver Broncos are having a great football season. Sunday Peyton Manning, the quarterback, shattered the record for the most touchdown passes in NFL history. So Bronco candy is a sweet success.
Near this ghost and scarecrow, you can drool over the selection of fudge.
We received some of this fudge as a gift a few months ago. It is delicious. A few weeks ago we sent some of Roberta’s fudge to our Alaska cousin, Eider Duck, in North Pole, Alaska. Eider and the humans loved this fudge. You should know that all the candy is made right here in this building. Roberta makes some candy. While we were there she had 2 employees making candy. Fresher is better. The selection of truffles (on the left) is large and delicious.
On the right you can see the chocolate creams and nuts. This store has so many different kinds of chocolate. Everywhere you look is another sweet treat. Roberta has been satisfying the chocolate cravings of Denver since 1995. Roberta’s Chocolate won the Best Chocolate category in the Denver A-List competition—for the 4th year in a row. The people of Denver vote, so we definitely think this is the best chocolate in town. When we were here a few weeks ago, Roberta told us she recently signed another multi year lease. We will be enjoying Roberta’s fresh chocolates for many years to come.
This sign made us smile,
and it is so true. Roberta said I could sit on her car.
This is a great car for a great product. Of course we did not go to Roberta’s just to tell you about it. We brought some wonderful chocolate home. One box is a gift and one is for us.
For more information, visit www.RobertasChocolates.com or even better, visit Roberta’s Chocolates at 4840 W 29th Avenue, Denver, Colorado. You will be so happy.
Riverside Park in Fort Morgan, Colorado
I, Zeb the Duck, and Soapy Smith Duck stopped in Fort Morgan, Colorado.
We discovered Riverside Park. Trees, a lake with a fountain and many geese and ducks, lots of green grass, a playground and picnic tables. All this peacefulness is just a block from I-76.
When driving on I-76 stop here, relax, have a picnic, enjoy this park.
These ducks came out of the lake to meet us.
When they realize we were not lunch, they became our friends. We like the picnic tables by the lake, but if you want shade or shelter from rain,
this pavilion is perfect.
Little humans have so many choices for climbing and playing here.
We tried the slide. It is fun!
There is a swimming pool, closed for the season, and a basketball court.
We really like this park. So do our distant relatives.
We hope you enjoy Riverside Park, either as a destination, or driving through on I-76. Stop for a break here.
Little Man Ice Cream
Humans love ice cream and so do ducks. I, Zeb the Duck, and Soapy Smith Duck went back to the Highlands neighborhood of Denver and we ate ice cream. We stopped at the 27-foot, 7 ton, cream can.
This is Little Man Ice Cream place. The ice cream is very smooth and tasty. The humans were all smiling as they ate. They have some unusual flavors.
We sampled and then purchased Salted Maple Pecan. Remembering the creamy texture and great flavor makes me want to go back now.
Little Man Ice Cream opened in 2008.
This sign tells a little about them. During certain times, this mobile unit is helping more people enjoy ice cream.
Little Man Ice Cream serves many people. Plenty of seating is available.
Since it is now October, the seating areas are decorated with bales of hay or straw and many, many pumpkins. It is so festive! We loved it at Little Man Ice Cream. The seating area away from the street featured this great mural.
Human kids even have a slide to play on after eating ice cream.
There is a lot of seating, but it is separated so each area is cozy and friendly. This place is great.
The Scoop for Scoop Program means for every scoop of ice cream sold here, Little Man Ice Cream donates a 3-ounce scoop of rice/beans to developing countries around the world. As Little Man Ice Cream says, “Making a Difference Has Never Tasted So Good.”
Little Man Ice Cream is a great place.
When you are in the Highland neighborhood of Denver, be sure to visit. For more information visit www.littlemanicecream.com
Pope Farms Pumpkin Patch in Wiggins, Colorado
It is October and we have many pumpkin patches to visit. I, Zeb the Duck, and Soapy Smith Duck, went to eastern Colorado. We stopped at Pope Farms in Wiggins, Colorado.
There is a pumpkin patch here. This is also a real farm. They sell fresh vegetables here. But in October things are ready for Halloween. Look at all these bales of hay and so many pumpkins.
This smaller tractor pulls these cars, painted like cows, and small humans can ride in them.
So much fun. You can see that the corn is real tall.
Just perfect for a corn maize. The bigger tractor pulls this wagon,
usually lined with hay, for a ride around the farm. These pumpkins are still growing.
It is a good thing that they are big and bright colors. Humans can easily find and pick them. Look at these bales of hay.
Just to show you how big they are, the yellow spots on the ground are us, Zeb and Soapy. Hope they do not fall.
We hope you visit a pumpkin patch this October. This is a nice one, but if you don’t live here, visit one near you. They are fun!
Colors of Autumn near Denver 2014
Today, Tuesday, was a beautiful fall day in Colorado. I, Zeb the Duck, was in the car with mom as she drove around town doing errands.
We stopped to take some pictures, but I did not get in any photos.
Just scenery shots today. These photos are northwest of Denver, and probably within 5 miles of downtown Denver.
We like to show you the beauty of Colorado.
These trees are turning colors and as you can see, most of the leaves are still on the trees.
The fall mums add more color for the season.
A few more photos near Indian Tree Golf Club in Arvada. JB Duck’s dad and his friends have golfed here.
The sky is so blue.
We have not had a hard freeze or heavy snow yet, so the leaves have not been damaged. So far, the snow and freezing temperatures have been limited to the mountains. Tuesday was sunny and 70 degrees. Wednesday, as you read this, we expect to reach 80 degrees with sun again. We encourage you to look for fall colors and enjoy the colors of autumn everywhere.
Elk Fest 2014 in Estes Park, Colorado
It is Elk Fest time. I, Zeb the Duck, and Soapy Smith Duck with our moms and Soapy’s dog Steve, went to Estes Park, Colorado.
Elk Fest is a great time in Estes Park. The elk often come right into town. It is also mating season for elk, so sometimes we hear elk bugling. Estes Park has a couple entrances to Rocky Mountain National Park, so the setting is gorgeous and the wildlife plentiful.
Estes Park is also home to the Stanley Hotel, featured in the movie The Shining.
The hotel is very nice, but why so many cars here today?
Now we know. The elk herd is lounging and grazing at the grounds of the Stanley. This one huge bull elk guards the many cows, or girl elk.
As you can see, Colorado Division of Wildlife has tagged some of the elk.
We loved seeing so many elk in town today.
During Elk Fest there are booths and entertainment. These Indians were entertaining today.
This is a sample of beadwork for sale.
We expected to see elk and other animals, but this…
We spotted the remains of a stone building on a hill, but this was at the beginning of the trail.
With Steve on a leash, 2 ducks and 2 humans started up the mountain trail.
The ruins were nice to see.
The hike was fun.
Several other humans and dogs were visiting the area also. Heading back to the car to leave, Steve stops to look at the river.
Even though Elk Fest was last weekend, the elk still come into Estes Park and many shops are open. If you can, visit Estes Park soon. The elk will probably be in town and the scenery is spectacular.
