Happy Labor Day 2016

Today, September 5, 2016 is Labor Day in the United States.   Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday of September.   This is a day to recognize the contributions of American workers, of all industries, to the United States economy.    The first Labor Day was celebrated in New York City in 1882.   Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894.    This holiday is also meant to give workers a well-earned day off to relax at home or get out for recreation.   For many this marks the end of the summer season.   On this Labor Day, we the Colorado Traveling Ducks, would like to recognize three Colorado companies that employee many Coloradans.   In 1873 Coors Brewery was founded in Golden, Colorado.

In 1920 Hammond Candy Company was started in Denver, Colorado.

In 1969 Celestial Seasonings began making herbal tea and selling it to health food stores in Boulder, Colorado.

The factories are in Colorado and each company offers free tours and an outlet store.

These three Colorado companies have a large national following.   We are proud of these and all Colorado companies that employee several humans, contributing to a healthy Colorado economy.

National Ice Cream Day TODAY

It is supposed to be hot in July in the United States, so we want ice cream.   In 1984 President Ronald Reagan proclaimed July as National Ice Cream Month.   He also established National Ice Cream Day as the third Sunday in July.   So Americans and friends of Americans, it is your patriotic duty to eat ice cream today.   The Colorado Traveling Ducks, with our friend Channel the Bear, took our humans for ice cream to celebrate.   We all decided on mint ice cream.

We all love ice cream

We are at Cold Stone Creamery eating ice cream.   Some of us have white chocolate chips mixed in our mint ice cream.   What flavor ice cream will you enjoy today?  Hey humans!   Let’s cut and eat that ice cream cake.   Yum.

Happy Independence Day 2016

Today, July 4, we celebrate the birth of the United States of America.   The United States was once a British colony.

On July 4, 1776 the Continental Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence.   This day is celebrated across the United States, with parades, picnics, festivals, and when it is dark enough, wonderful displays of fireworks light the sky.

We, the Colorado Traveling Ducks, wish you all a safe and happy 4th of July.

Father’s Day 2016

Today, Sunday, June 19, 2016 is Father’s Day in the United States.   Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June every year.   This is a holiday to honor fathers and male parenting and to recognize the influence of fathers in our society.   We, the Colorado Traveling Ducks wish all fathers, brothers, uncles, and grandfathers a Happy Father’s Day.   Father’s Day became a national holiday in 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed the holiday into law.   We especially wish a Happy Father’s Day to Eider Duck’s father and to JB Duck’s father.

Happy Flag Day 2016

Today, June 14 commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States of America by resolution of the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777.   Today, June 14 is also the birthday of the United States Army.   We, the Colorado Traveling Ducks, hope all Americans proudly and properly display the flag of the United States of America.

National Doughnut Day 2016

We love donuts!   Today, the first Friday in June, is National Doughnut Day.    This holiday was created by the Salvation Army in 1938.   The day recognizes the Salvation Army Doughnut Lassies.   Those are the ladies that served free donuts to the soldiers during World War I.

This holiday began in 1938 as a fund raiser for Chicago’s Salvation Army, to help people during the Great Depression.   Today some donut stores are giving free donuts, often asking for a donation for the local Salvation Army.   We love donuts and we support the Salvation Army.  We will be at our donut shop, eating donuts and donating to the Salvation Army.

This is a great day for ducks and humans!

Happy Memorial Day 2016

Today is Memorial Day in the United States.   Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day after the American Civil War.   Since 1967 Memorial Day has been a Federal Holiday, celebrated the last Monday in May.   This is the day for remembering the people who died while serving in the United States armed forces.

We drove to Fort Logan National Cemetery in south Denver.   This federal cemetery is 214 acres of white headstones and was opened in the late 1800s.

Volunteers placed American flags at all graves.   There are more than 100,000 small American flags there today.   The roads leading into the cemetery are marked with larger American flags.

Happy Mother’s Day 2016

Happy Mother’s Day to everyone from the Colorado Traveling Ducks.   Mother’s Day became an official holiday in the United States in 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson signed the declaration.   In the United States Mother’s Day is celebrated the second Sunday in May.   In the UK Mother’s Day is celebrated the fourth Sunday of Lent.   Mother’s Day honors mothers and the influence of mothers in society.   Mother’s Day is expanded to honor mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, grandmothers, and women in general.   We, the Colorado Traveling Ducks will be proud to take the human women to dinner today.   We ducks, and our human males, appreciate all the human females do for us and society in general.   Happy Mother’s Day to all.

Cinco de Mayo 2016

Today is Cinco de Mayo, or May 5.   This is a Mexican holiday celebrating the smaller Mexican army defeating a larger French army in the city of Puebla, Mexico in 1862.   The French, under Napoleon’s leadership, returned and defeated the Mexican army and the French ruled Mexico for several years.   This is the 29th year of Denver’s Cinco de Mayo celebration.   This  Saturday and Sunday, May 7 and 8, 2016 the celebration will be held in Denver’s Civic Center Park.   If you go, you may see the parade Saturday morning.   Also Saturday there will be a taco eating contest, a Quinceanera Fashion Show ( girl’s 15th birthday) and chihuahua races.   Both days will feature music, delicious food, and many venders.   We hope you go to Civic Center Park this weekend to celebrate and enjoy the Cinco de Mayo festival.

Happy Birthday from the Colorado Traveling Ducks

Is today your birthday?   I bet lots of people have a birthday today.   We will mention three birthdays from the past week.   If your birthday is soon, or recently passed, Happy Birthday to You.

On April 20, Mr. Peanut celebrated his 100th birthday in Manhattan’s Times Square in New York City.   The talking peanut blew out 100 candles on his birthday cake.   Mr. Peanut was born when 14 year old Antonio Gentile submitted his sketch to win Planters contest for a brand icon.   A commercial artist later added the top hat, monocle and a cane.   Antonio Gentile was from Suffolk, Virginia.

On April 21, Queen Elizabeth of England celebrated her 90th birthday.   She is now the longest reigning monarch.
