Ubud, Bali, Indonesia Welcomes the Colorado Traveling Ducks

Bali, Indonesia is beautiful.  From the airport we drove through amazing mountain and jungle scenery.   We are staying at Ubud Village Hotel at Monkey Forest.   In the morning we needed to explore.   Out the front entrance of our resort and a right turn.   Shortly we arrive at the Monkey Forest entrance.

Entrance to Monkey Forest

Yes, that is a monkey on the roof.  Just inside the monkey forest is a statue.

Monkeys on statue

And this statue has a monkey on the head.   And monkeys nearby.   We like monkeys, but there are a lot of them.   The road coming into Ubud passes in front of the monkey forest.

Road near entrance to Monkey Forest

The vegetation is beautiful and tropical.   It seems like there are many motorcycles.   This is a different statue.

Stone monkey on stone turtle. Zeb and Soapy on stone turtle head

Turtles have a significance to the local people, and here is a stone monkey sitting on the turtle.   And, two famous Colorado Traveling Ducks, sitting on the turtle head.   We have seen a few dogs on the street.

We like this

We love this sign.   Free veterinary care for street dogs.   Isn’t that great?  We have places to go with our group this morning, so we wander back toward the hotel.

Our street and shopping

Shopping is available everywhere.  As the day progresses, we see so many motorcycles.

Motorcycles for transportation

They are convenient to rent and so much easier to drive than cars.   We think this is a nice way to see Bali.   We did make some purchases, but no food.  Different people on the street warned us to be careful as the monkeys will take what they want.   We made sure nothing was poking out of our shopping bags.

Many monkey statues here

And so many great statues of monkey near the monkey forest.   A few blocks from the monkey forest we did not see any more monkeys.   Bali is Indonesia’s main tourist destination.   Located 8 degrees south of the equator, Bali has a wonderful climate all year.   Ubud, the city we are visiting, is known as the cultural center and magnet for artists.

Motorcycles and shop

This store offers an unusual variety of items.   While walking we entered some stores and made some purchases.   Snake skin change purses, wooden monkeys and bowls, a statue of Ganesha, a Hindu god, a little jewelry, and our favorite.   Reusable bamboo drinking straws.   We had never seen the bamboo straws before.   Always something new to see.

Shopping choices

Another interesting shop.   But this store, across from our hotel, had to be our favorite.

Our Bali relative

Our relative from Bali is ready to take us to the pool or beach.   Unfortunately, mom says we are on a tour and have places to go.   But we enjoyed meeting a fellow rubber duck.   We already like Bali, and our town of Ubud.   We’re eager to see more of Bali.

Return to North Pole, Alaska with Zeb and Eider Duck

Here we are.  Back in North Pole, Alaska.

North Pole, Alaska

North Pole is a small town about 10-15 miles from Fairbanks.   First stop was Visitor’s Center, but they were closed.

Visitor’s Center in North Pole, Alaska

Yes, that is grass growing on the roof.   Good insulation.   In Fairbanks, we went to Denny’s for a quick meal.

Northern most Denny’s. Fairbanks, Alaska

And, we were at the most northern Denny’s in the world.   Quite impressive.   The town of North Pole is devoted to Christmas, all year long.

Santa at North Pole

Santa has his house here, since he does live at the North Pole.

Santa lives here.

He also has a really nice gift shop.   As we entered, we saw so many Christmas decorations.

Christmas ornaments and decorations

And more Christmas decorations.

So much for Christmas

They have so much and it is so much fun to look around.   There are ornaments and items from Alaska, and some from other parts of the world.   Another section of the shop features t-shirts and other clothing.

Santa shirts

They even have great flannel one piece pajamas.   And a trap door in the seat for humans when they get up during the night.   They are really warm.   Perfect for the long cold Alaskan winter nights.   After shopping, we discovered the fudge counter at Santa’s House.   Yum!   Going outside, next to Santa’s House, is the Antler Academy.

Antler Academy

Do you see the reindeer to the right of the Antler Academy?   They are real!  This is where the reindeer learn to fly so they can lead Santa’s sleigh around the world on Christmas Eve.

These graduates can fly

These are graduates of Antler Academy.   Flying with Santa now to practice for the very important trip in late December.   North Pole is a nice town with all modern shopping and restaurants.   But they have Santa’s House and the Antler Academy, also.   We hope you visit, we recommend summer, and enjoy the North Pole.

Yesterday, I, Zeb the Duck and Soapy Smith Duck, took you to Winter Park Resort.

We are here!

Today we will show you more of this great Resort.   After we left the ice skating pond, we saw this.

We like this musical instrument

We like this musical instrument

Humans can play this instrument and make music.   We ducks really like to hear the musical sounds.   Further into the Village, we reached the ski slopes.

Skiers and Snowboarders

We watched the skiers and snowboarders.   Here they are, coming down the slope.

Skiing down the hill

We saw adults with regular length skis.

After the humans come down the hill, some of them head for the chair lift to go back to the top, and some remove the skis and snowboards while resting, eating or shopping.

There are many places to shop here.

And there are condos in the same buildings.  That is very convenient for the humans.   Some humans want private skiing lessons, so this is the place.

Private lessons here. And a resting area

Or, this is also a great spot to just sit, rest and watch all the people.   Soon, many people are tired and finished for the day.   Now it is back to the parking lots to drive back to Denver, or to go to a condo and prepare to do it all again tomorrow.

Finished for today

Colorado is a great place for skiing and snowboarding, but we wanted to show you that there is so much more to do in Colorado’s mountains during the winter.   For more information, visit http://www.winterparkresort.com   We hope you enjoy Colorado’s Rocky Mountains this winter.

Phillipsburg, Sint Maarten

Alaska cousin and Zeb the Duck head for the PeliDeli with our humans.

We love the Peli Deli

We love the Peli Deli

We climb on the bus toward Phillipsburg, St. Maarten.  This bus is provided by Ama Jewelers.  Ama has several stores in St. Maarten.  The have really cute pendant necklaces with jeweled flip-flop sandals.  That is so like the beach!  Ama jewelers also specialize in colored diamonds.  I think all human females love colored diamonds.

We stop for breakfast at an outside café.

Breakfast being cooked

With full stomachs, the humans wander through many shops.  The streets are lined with stores, and this clock caught the duck eyes.

Shopping street

Phillipsburg, St. Maarten is one of the busiest shopping areas in the Caribbean.  In additional to traditional stores, we enjoyed this market.

We love these markets

We love these markets

Many cruise ships stop here, for shopping, for beautiful beaches and of course, the many great spots for lunch.

We don’t want you to think that shopping is all there is.  We saw this church, St, Maarten of Tours Roman Catholic Church

and other historical and government buildings.  The street near the beach has so many human opportunities.  Segways are for rent, as are many beach accessories.

We saw shoppers, swimmers, boaters and people lounging on the beach and many humans in the cafes.

This Pirate Sports Bar was interesting and had great figures to cause humans to notice the establishment.

At this café, we could see the gentleman grilling this chicken.

It smelled wonderful.  We did have another snack here.  Very tasty!

St. Maarten has guavaberries.  This store specializes in guavaberry products.  This sign promotes guavaberry liqeur.

Famous in St. Maarten

Famous in St. Maarten

This is best enjoyed on St. Maarten as it is difficult to transport liquids on the airplane.   Tomorrow we leave St. Maarten and fly to St. Thomas so we did not purchase additional liquids today.

Phillipsburg is a busy port with great shopping.  We ducks loved it, but were ready to get back to our beach and pool.  The humans got a taxi and we headed back to our resort.

Feet on the sand

Feet on the sand

We loved the shopping and activities of Phillipsburg and we think you would enjoy some time here also.  Maybe some blue or canary diamonds??

Bass Pro Shop

More sporting supplies, more mounted animals and more fudge.  Life is really good for us.  Last time we went to Cabelas sport store.  Cabelas is new in Denver.  Now we are talking about Bass Pro.  Bass Pro has been in Denver a few years and we love this store.

Bass Pro has all the normal sporting supplies required to be a top sporting goods outfitter.

Love this entrance and welcome greeting

They have so much fishing gear and so much hunting equipment.  Here I am with many duck decoys.

Bass Pro also has guns, ammunition, a special gunroom and a gunsmith.  But one of the best things, besides the restaurant is more wonderful fudge.  Fabulous!

Let’s see what we found.  Furniture, such as these lamps, made for the sportsman.

Also for the ice fisherman, place these shelters on the ice for your comfort and protection.

This is new.  Bass Pro has a great aquarium by the elevators, and now a pond with these live ducks.  The sign said they are Ruddy Ducks and as they are new to Bass Pro they are a little frightened.

More duck relatives in Denver!

My Alaska cousin and I spotted great toys.  The ATV would be so much fun in the mountains.

But the humans said no.  Then we found the boats.  We learned to love boats in the Caribbean.

So many boats at Bass Pro

The Pink Store in Palomas, Mexico

Mexico!  I just got back from Mexico.  Wow!  Zeb the duck is now an international traveler.

Zeb the Duck is in Mexico!

Zeb the Duck is in Mexico!

We spent a few hours in Palomas, Mexico last weekend.  Most of our purchases came from The Pink Store.  Let me tell you about this store.

But first, Palomas, Mexico is a border town in the state of Chihuahua.  It is across from Columbus, New Mexico, just south of Deming, New Mexico.  We drove to the border, parked on the US side and walked into Mexico.  So easy.  The Pink Store was recommended to us, and this is why.  The Pink Store is huge and has everything.

This skeleton lady was the first thing I saw.

She is just too thin

She is just too thin

A bit of a shock to me.  Mom said that Mexico’s Day of the Dead is Nov 1 and Nov 2.  The spirits of the deceased return and much celebrating occurs.  I saw lots of skeleton displays.

Skeleton stuff everywhere

Skeleton stuff everywhere

Everything seemed so festive.

A skeleton wedding

I was amazed and loved it all.

Mexico produces much pottery and hand blown glass and it is beautiful.  These were displayed on a wall,

but many more are on shelves.   Some of my favorites are the dolls made from cornhusks.

Dolls and a duck

Perhaps a duck on the shelf enhances the display.  I wanted to play with these piñatas.

Oh to be a human

Oh to be a human

Too bad I am not human.

We ate lunch at the Pancho Villa Restaurant in The Pink Store.  Excellent food and service.  So many choices.  A man played music while we ate.  He was nice, too.  Near the restaurant was a large bar.  Looking out the window at the The Pink Store Plaza I saw General Pershing and Pancho Villa shaking hands.  I joined them in the handshake.

I love a firm handshake

In the plaza this wooden door caught my attention.

The carving on this door was magnificent.  Took lots of talent and time to carve this door.

This is just one section of the door. WOW!

Also love the peaceful feeling of a fountain.

I could have stayed all day at The Pink Store, discovering and shopping.  Mom bought vanilla, Kahlua and some other souvenirs.  Look at this site www.Palomasmexico.com to see more photos of the Pink Store.  I will tell you more about Palomas soon.
